TEACHER BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Klein
pianist, teacher
Jonathan Klein received his training at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, earning both his Masters and Bachelors degrees. He was the recipient of the school’s Athon-Hughes-Cook Piano Pedagogy award and has received a Steinway Piano Galleries Teacher Educator Grant for the state of Georgia.
An active performer, he has been annually selected to participate in the PianoTexas academy and music festival in Fort Worth,Texas and was a featured concerto soloist with the Fort Worth Symphony orchestra. In addition to owning and operating Klein Piano Studio for over 20 years in the Athens area, Jonathan serves as summer faculty for the UGA Hugh Hodgson Summer Piano Camp & Institute, is the organist, pianist, & director of music for St. Gregory the Great Episcopal Church, and the head accompanist for the Athens Master Chorale.
A dedicated teacher, his students regularly earn top honors at local, state, and national level competitions and festivals, have been invited to summer music intensive programs such as SEPF, Pianotexas, Brevard, UGA Hugh Hodgson Summer Institute, and have performed throughout the state and beyond including performances in New York’s Carnegie Hall (Weill Recital Hall).
Jonathan is a member of Music Teachers National Association and has held several executive board positions including GMTA executive board & Financial Advisory Committee, GMTA Vice-President of Publicity, Athens MTA President (two terms), ATMA Program Chair, ATMA local auditions chair, and is founder and chair of the annual AMTA Sonata & Sonatina festival. Jonathan has been published in the national keyboard magazine Clavier Companion and regularly judges piano competitions and festivals throughout the southeast.
